Joint health and mobility can affect the very nature and quality of the relationships you have with your companion animals. At Joint Response, that’s how we came to develop Advanced Cetyl M® Joint Action Formula now used by thousands of horse and dog owners and veterinarians nationwide. Following are some of the more frequently asked questions about Advanced Cetyl M®—and the answers that may help you understand how this unique joint action formula can help your horse or dog.
What is cetyl myristoleate?
Cetyl myristoleate is a unique esterified fatty acid that has been shown to have dramatic and positive effects on injured, arthritic and healthy joints. Cetyl myristoleate is derived from myristoleic acid, which occurs naturally in the African kombo nut (wild nutmeg), whale fat and beef tallow. Advanced Cetyl M® Joint Action Formula for Horses is the only equine joint health product that uses 100% plant-based cetyl myristoleate. Advanced Cetyl M® Joint Action Formula for Dogs uses a unique combination of cetyl myristoleate from both plant and animal sources.
Can’t animals simply make their own cetyl myristoleate?
Unfortunately, they cannot. For dogs and horses, cetyl myristoleate must come from an outside source and is beneficial to joint health and recovery because of its unique molecular structure. Subjecting it to heat or pressure, such as occurs in the manufacturing process with pelleted and extruded products, can have a degrading effect—and can lower its beneficial properties for joint tissues. That’s why we DO NOT pellet either Advanced Cetyl M® Joint Action Formula for Horses or Advanced Cethly M® Joint Action Formula for Dogs.

How does cetyl myristoleate work?
Cetyl myristoleate works in combination with our unique proprietary blend of joint-enhancing ingredients in Advanced Cetyl M® Joint Action Formula to target joint tissues and reduce inflammation, stimulate joint lubrication, reduce pain and stiffness, and regulate the body’s immune response to joint stress and irritation. The precise mechanisms in each case are not fully known. Empirical data, however, have repeatedly demonstrated these benefits reliably in dogs and horses—and even humans.
How long until Advanced Cetyl M® starts working?
The first signs that Advanced Cetyl M® Joint Action Formula is working are commonly seen two to three weeks after treatment begins, but can take longer depending on the nature and severity of the animal's condition and other variables. Advanced Cetyl M® Joint Action Formula is a serious treatment that acts on joint tissues at the cellular level to enhance joint structure and tissue function. As such, it is not designed to simply “mask” symptoms and should not be viewed as a “quick fix.” The recommended time and dosage for the initial “loading” period and subsequent maintenance program are based on averages. In nature, of course, there is no such thing as “average.” Be sure to monitor your animal’s condition closely and adjust as necessary to help ensure optimum results.

How long do I have to give Advanced Cetyl M® to my horse or dog?
The answer to this question is impossible to know for certain, depending on the nature and severity of your animal’s condition—and your treatment goals. For chronic conditions, such as arthritis, we recommend an ongoing maintenance program with Advanced Cetyl M® Joint Action Formula for continued relief. For more acute conditions, such as a specific injury, treatment may continue until the joint has fully recovered. In these situations, Advanced Cetyl M® Joint Action Formula is often administered post-recovery to slow or prevent the onset of arthritis in the injured joint. For active animals where joints are subjected to higher levels of stress, particularly large dogs and performance horses, Advanced Cetyl M® Joint Action Formula is often used as a preventative treatment to enhance performance, minimize the damaging effects of stress on joint tissues, and increase the life of the joint and the comfort of the animal.
Are there any side effects?
There are no known side effects with Advanced Cetyl M® Joint Action Formula. All ingredients are naturally occurring and formulated to enhance joint function. There are no synthetic compounds, drugs or medications of any kind in Advanced Cetyl M® Joint Action Formula. Veterinarians have prescribed Advanced Cetyl M® Joint Action formula since its introduction in 1998 to promote joint health, relief and performance in dogs and horses without restriction.

No. Veterinarians have been using and prescribing Advanced Cetyl M® Joint Action formula since its introduction in 1998 to promote joint health, relief and performance in dogs and horses without restriction.
Do I have to give a “loading” dose if my horse or dog is already on glucosamine?
Yes. Cetyl myristoleate effects and acts upon joint tissues in ways that are unique to cetyl myristoleate—and DIFFERENT than glucosamine. One does not work as a substitute for the other. In Advanced Cetyl M® Joint Action Formula, cetyl myristoleate and Glucosamine HCL work in concert with other joint-enhancing ingredients to deliver the greatest benefit to your animal. We recommend an initial “loading” dose be administered 10-30 days for horses, depending on the age of the animal and the severity of the condition, and 4-6 weeks for dogs. The recommended “loading” period and dosage level are based on averages. In nature, of course, there is no such thing as “average.” Be sure to monitor your animal’s condition and adjust as may be necessary to help ensure optimum results.
